F2L solves the first two layers together. Instead of placing a white corner, then later placing its matching edge, you pair them in the top layer and insert both at once.

The entire skill is pattern recognition: find a corner-edge pair, separate or connect the pieces, rotate the pair into a simple shape, and insert it into the correct slot.

Learn intuitive F2L first

Do not start with a 41-case algorithm sheet. Learn the common ideas first: take pieces out of bad slots, pair them with U moves, and insert into front-right or front-left slots. If a case makes no sense, solve it slowly and watch how the pieces move.

Timed solves are discouraging during this phase. Do untimed solves for a week, narrating the pair you are solving. Your goal is not speed yet; it is seeing pairs without panic.

Add algorithms only when they save a real problem

Once intuitive F2L works, specific algorithms become useful for ugly cases: pairs stuck in the wrong slot, pieces connected badly, or back-slot inserts that would otherwise require rotations.

Learn one or two cases at a time and immediately use them in solves. An algorithm you cannot recognize in context is not learned yet.
